Goodbye to Uganda

We have been in Uganda for 12 days and we are leaving tomorrow to head down to Kigali, Rwanda - via bus, much to the chagrin of some of our friends we've been staying with lately :) But the bus is safe and infinitely less expensive than flying between the two countries ... and so maybe it will be uncomfortable and we'll have no bathroom facilities for 8 hours ... it is an adventure, right?

Though I'm so excited to go onto phase 2 of our trip and explore Rwanda, I'm so sad to leave Uganda. I've fallen in love with it here. It's an amazingly beautiful country - I think you could stick literally anything in the ground here and it would grow. And the people here are beautiful. Everywhere we've gone, we've been greeted with big smiles and genuine questions of how we are doing, what we are doing, where we are from, etc. Amidst a lot of civil unrest, dire poverty and government corruption, the people in Uganda are amazingly hopeful and happy. It is an attitude and outlook on life that we can and should all learn from. And the generosity of the Ugandans is astounding. A person will literally have only a bunch of matoke (kind of like bananas) and one chicken to his name, and 100 shillings in his pocket, but if his neighbor needs that 100 shillings and the chicken, there is no question but to share it with him. It is just how things are done here. I am already starting to think about when I can come back here for another trip!

There is SO much to write about for this last week of the trip, but not enough time, so I promise more posts from Rwanda and with more frequency. And hopefully a picture or two!
